Space in the chassis is really limited, so I went with the Kyosho Le Mans 240S ESC as it can be screwed to the underside of the upper deck. I also run the Le Mans 240S 15.5 Brushless motor (both the ESC and motor are recommended for the Mid). But, with that combo, stock gearing and 7.2V NiMH I wasn't too impressed with the speed. Once I replaced the pinion the car was a lot quicker.
You'll need 48 pitch 👍. Part # is PNGS4828 for the 28T one. For the others, just change the last two digits in the part #. Kyosho list useable pinions in the manual from 20T up to 36T. Though you might need to change the spur if going too far from the kit standard 25T.
